- AC (Alternating Current): Constantly reverses direction and is what is found in home power outlets.
Batteries in electric vehicles need DC power, but charging stations provide AC power in most situations. Therefore, EVs must convert the AC power before storing it. However, DC fast chargers supply power directly to the battery, which charges more rapidly.
